eSafe will always try to answer any question that our existing or perspective clients may have, as promptly as possible...
Here are a few of the most common Questions & Answers:
Why should I consider using a remote backup service?
As people and businesses have come to rely on computers to house so much of their critical information, it is important to have a regimented backup system in place. One of the key factors in a good backup plan that is often over looked is securing the data off-site and in the event of a fire, flood or even theft, this could result in a reduced ability to obtain a complete recovery of data. By using an automated remote service, this will ensure the backup is done as required and stored in a safe off-site location, available when needed.
What makes eSafe different than other backup services?
Other companies offering similar services often use it as an add-on to their primary line of business. eSafe was started with one purpose only, to provide a much needed service to the business community, which is a reliable means of backing up their data. Even though you may subscribe to our service through one of our associates, you are still being protected by a company that is dedicated to serving you, the end user.
Am I on my own to setup the software?
No... We choose to keep ourselves or the associate company directly in front of the customer. Instead of offering our client software simply as a download via the internet, we prefer to hand deliver it to our customers and perform the setup for the customer along with their assistance. We believe that the personal face-to-face service will give more confidence in knowing that there are people behind the service ensuring that your needs are being met.
What is the cost of this automated service?
The cost can vary substantially from client to client, and is dependant upon the amount of data that is to be backed up, the number of computers and other possible options chosen. In just about every case it is much less than the cost of any manual backup option when labour time is taken into consideration. We offer a basic SOHO (small office/home office) package that starts at $22.95 per month for 500MB of compressed storage space, and have a number of predefined packages.
How flexible is your service in accommodating my computer/network?
Our client software can be installed on any Windows based operating system and will work from behind most of the standard firewalls used today without any changes. Our software will backup data on local or network drives, servers or even laptops.
Can I backup more than one computer with a single account?
Yes... Should it be required that more than one computer have their own client software, we can provide one account with multiple client logins, all accruing to the storage volume of the master account.
How do I sign up?
The easiest way is to contact eSafe directly or one of our associate companies. We have chosen to offer our services through associates only to provide the option for all to decide whom they would like to work with. Some of our clients may already have a preferred Technology Service company that they are happy with, while others may have not yet found that magic match.
How secure is my data using this backup method?
Our clients' data really could not be any safer. At no time do we login to your systems or is data transmitted that has not been encrypted by the most up-to-date standards, using "key codes" or passwords which are selected, held and controlled by the client. Not even the employees of eSafe are able to view the contents of the data stored on our servers. Many backup procedures such as uploading to FTP servers or copying it to CD/Tapes, do not use encryption, so should this data end up in the hands of someone else it could be free for the viewing.
Do I require any special equipment?
No... The only requirement is an internet connection, preferably a Cable or DSL. The faster the connection, the less time it will take to perform the backup or restore procedures.
How often is my data backed up?
Because the client is involved with the configuration of the backup procedures, their input is what can determine the period of time between backups or how many sets will be created.
What happens if the connection is dropped during data transmission?
Should the connection drop during the procedure, our software will attempt to reestablish the link through to our servers and simply pick-up where it left off.
Can I use this service to recover files that have been deleted by mistake?
Often times if a file is deleted or modified to a point that could be very time consuming to recreate or return to it's original state. Provided the file is included in the scheduled backup, utilizing the eSafe client software, it can be recovered within minutes saving what could be hours of data entry time.
Am I on my own to recover my data when required?
No... As stated before, we believe in maintaining a personal connection with our clients. Restorations can be performed unassisted, but we would like all our clients to know that we are here to serve them. We can provide assistance at no charge via the telephone or we can arrange for one of our technical representatives to be on-site to assist in the recovery at what ever point you feel they might be needed.*
What options do I have for restoring my data?
Restoration can take place via the internet or it can be delivered to the client personally, in a still encrypted form by one of our technical representatives. Sometimes in the event of a complete restore it is not always practical to utilize the internet for larger transfers, and in such cases the encrypted data can be loaded onto a mobile "electronic safe", brought to the client's location and then restored via a local connection in a fraction of the time an internet restore might take.*
How long does it take to restore my data?
Similar the backup procedure, the time it takes to perform a restore depends completely on how much data is being restored and the speed of your internet connection.
How long is my backup data available for me to access?
Data is available for restoration from our eSafe servers almost as long as the client would like us to retain it. We typically have available the last 30 backup sessions and maintain the last modified version of every file.
What happens if I exceed the storage space of my subscription?
We DO NOT prevent clients from going over their quotas as this can happen not only by mistake, but also by choice...we backup first then ask questions later. Notification is given at which time there are basically two options; the client can authorize the increase in the plan size to accommodate the new space requirements, or the data can be cleared from the server to allow a fresh backup set to be created with presumably older archived files removed from the list of files being backed up to reduce data volume.
Does eSafe offer any sort of archiving service?
We currently do not offer a long term archiving service, however we can at any point in time produce on CD/DVD* a copy of the encrypted data from our servers for our clients to hold on to as their own archive, which we recommend be stored in a secure location (i.e. safe deposit box).
How do I get version updates of the client software?
All updates to the client software are included in the subscription fee and are very easily obtained. There is a built-in utility that is manually initiated and will perform an on-line update via the internet. We will periodically send notification via email when there are updates available.
* All on-site services, CD/DVD archives, mobile data restore services would be billed as required and additional to the monthly service charges
